Where are we?

By: Peter Kivuti

Is a question now within,
yesterday it was another scene,
of something pure and clean,
with laughter, joy so a wide grin,
so why is now dark and obscene?

we knelt and prayed,
in humility we struggled,
in oneness we cuddled.
even for the little warmth-
we shared and gave to the other without...

now within again is cold,
the praying that once was bold,
is emaciated that faith dareth not hold,
lest it drops, in pain from the scold!

even the skies swallow the clouds,
so the earth is an oven...
...everyone baked
...everything caked
and exit when done
to a lifeless fold
yet we were told and told
and we chose to forget?

so he died, so what?
she cries, why not?
its sad, says who?
how come, you too?
defile the lands and the one in it!
even this one struggling to hatch,
you fry and have for breakfast!

me me me,
the cry of the person,
so you and them and all of them,
are nothing but pawns in the game of chess,
check mate is all we now know, ending it before they start it,

what is victory without the victor?
what is happiness without Joy?
what a harvest with bare stores?
blank nothings fromm somethings,
crafted like a circus to be and not to be,
a trick by the trickster,
to cry but laugh...
...with you in the midst!

where are we?
